Music Opportunities
First access
At William Law school the children have many opportunities to experience playing an instrument. We have a progressive programme of first access provision.
All Middle School children learn to play the descant recorder for two years, as part of our first access programme.
For those who wish to continue playing, instrument lessons are available and pupil premium children are supported.
Year 2 also learn to play the ocarina. Each class has a weekly lesson for one term.
In the Summer term the Year 4 have an opportunity to learn to play the JSax (which follows on from skills learned playing the recorder), and also take part in a Samba band. This First Access programme is supported by Peterborough Music Hub.
Year 5 and 6 learn to play the ukulele to further develop their understanding of harmony. Each class has a weekly lesson for one term.
Musical Instrument Lessons
At William Law we are able to provide a variety of musical instrument lessons to all children.
This includes violin, 'cello, percussion, brass, woodwind, piano, ukulele and guitar.
The individual or group lessons are taught by peripatetic teachers who visit the school each week.
If you are interested in your child continuing or starting to play an instrument please contact the school office for details including the current prices for the lessons. A 'Taster' lesson is available to help decide which instrument your child is best suited to.
